The Importance of Driver’s Ed and Driving Lessons

driving lessonsAs your child ages and gets closer to being old enough to get behind the wheel, you may start considering driving lessons. You may ask yourself “Are they really needed?”. The answer to that question is yes. Driving lessons can change your child’s entire future, and keep them safe when they finally get behind the wheel.

Some Facts

There are reasons that there are so many driving classes and driving schools out there today. Unfortunately, the fatality rate for drivers that are 19 years old and younger is four times that of drivers age 25 to 69 years. This shows us that knowledge and experience really matters when it comes time for someone to get behind the wheel. Drivers training helps give young teens that experience in a faster-paced environment.

Take The Classes with Them

Everyone knows that it can be hard to motivate young teens to do things that do not seem interesting to them. To help encourage them along this driving lessons journey, sign up for classes with them. Many driving school’s offers a wide variety of classes. Some of them include beginner driving course, which is great for your teen, and defensive driving school, which is great for parents. Many car insurance companies actually offer discounts on your yearly premium if a driver finishes a defensive driving course. So, taking driving lessons with your child will not only motivate them to take the course seriously, but it will also save you some money in the long run.

Practice Makes Perfect

After the course is complete, always remember to continue to help your child practice good driver’s safety by helping them practice driving at least once a week. Being able to practice what was taught in the school outside the driver’s course will help them retain the information for later on in life.

Part of our job as a parent is to make sure our kids are as safe as possible. Ensuring that they have proper driver’s education will help keep them safe even as they age and move out of the house. They will take the information that they learned during the driving lessons, and hold onto it for the rest of their lives. Knowledge is power, but it is also a safety net. So, sign them up for that driving course this summer. They may not be happy, but at least they will be safe.
